Castle Farm FAQ

Where is Castle Farm?
Castle Farm is in the Welsh mountains, on the eastern most edge of the Brecon Beacons. It’s half way between Abergavenny and Hay on Wye, up a peaceful valley.

How big’s the group?
Maximum group size is 14 people. We can’t fit any more around the table.

How fit do I need to be?
If you want to join us on the walks at Castle Farm, you need to be able to walk and breathe at the same time. Basic health and ability to walk a few miles is enough. We’ll set a pace and route that will suit the group. You can do a test run at a Surrey Hills walk if that’s in your neck of the woods. If you have any doubts, please get in touch and ask.

Not everyone chooses to walk though – you can always hang out at the farm.

If you have any doubts about your fitness, please ask.

What do I need to bring?
Comfortable walking boots and waterproofs (coat and trousers) are the main essentials. And a towel. If you don’t have waterproof trousers, we do have a small stock and you may be able to borrow some.

How do the meals work?
We cook the food, you eat it. And we eat it too. The kitchen is the heart of the farmhouse (especially the bit around the Aga stove) so you’re always welcome to hang out there, chop a few vegetables up, or just sit there with a drink and watch us chop the vegetables up.

Is it for groups, singles or couples?

Yes. Ideal if you’re looking for a break on your own and you want to be able to relax and walk and feel safe, have people to talk with when you want to, and space when you want to. Ideal for couples, lots of gorgeous double rooms, lots of flexibility.  Ideal for groups – get away together, either fill the whole place or come as a group and meet others here too.
